How to view hidden files in Cpanel

Hidden Files in Cpanel

To increase your site security, some files may be hidden. There is an option to show or hide these files presented to you on your first use of Cpanel but many times some users ingore it. Hidden file and folder names start with a dot (.). For example:

  • .htaccess
  • .htpasswd
  • .fantasticodata
  • .bashrc

Show Hidden Files

When using File Manager, you cannot see hidden files and folders unless you select the option to show hidden files. To do this:

  1. In the Files section of cPanel, click the File Manager icon. A new window will pop up.
    • If you do not see a pop-up box, try clicking the Legacy File Managericon instead.
  2. Select the check box for Show Hidden Files (dotfiles).
  3. Click Go.

If you don't see a pop-up, you can also select 'reset all interface settings' at the bottom of the Techsys CPanel home page. My problem was that I had opted to disable the pop-up without having ticked the 'show hidden files' box. By resetting you get another opportunity to set the hidden files option.
